Grindelwald
September 2016

Switzerland is one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. In this post I will share a trip we did in the Grindelwald area. We actually made a bigger trip, combined with the one that appears in the Interlaken post. The reason we separated the trip is that in order to reach some of the destinations, you have to go through Interlaken train station anyway. Therefore, it seemed more logical to divide the trip and sleep at 2 different places.

Transportation
All the areas mentioned in this post can be reached by public transport or on foot. We received many recommendations before the trip to use public transportation, and it is indeed accurate and very convenient.
If you are coming for a long time, you can purchase a type of weekly/monthy public transportation card at a cheaper price. We purchased a type of card for a two-week stay, at the train station outside of the airport. This card also gave us certain discounts when we purchased tickets for some of the cable cars.

Where To Sleep
We stayed in the town of Grindelwald. This town is surrounded by high mountains and wonderful nature. There are not enough words to describe the good feeling in the morning, when you open the curtain and see the view.

First Mountain
Mount First is a beautiful mountain, surrounded by mountains, and includes many attractions. If you are staying in the town of Grindelwald, you may reach the cable car on foot.
The cable car has several stops, our trip starts at the top. One of the attractions after the ascent is the "Cliff Walk".
Cliff Walk

We skipped this attraction, and continued directly to the route to Bachalpsee. The walk involves some uphill, so you have to take that into account.
The lake itself is beautiful, and if you are lucky and it would be a cloud-free day,you will be able to see the famous reflection. On the way to the lake there is a beautiful view, and you may meet some animals (mainly cows).

After returning from the lake to the cable car, There are several attractions that you should not miss:
  • Omega - there is a cable car station where you can go down via Omega to the next station
  • Carting - at one of the stations there is a carting point, where you may go down the entire mountain using a carting vehicle that only has brakes. This is an amazing experience with a breathtaking view. FYI - there is no safety rail on the way down.

Trummelbach Falls
A series of waterfalls within a mountainous area, some of the waterfalls are inside the mountain and some are outside of it. The look is unique and beautiful. It is highly recommended. Arrival by public transport - a combination of traveling by train and bus.

Jungfrau
A mountain also called the "Top Of Europe", at the top you may walk around in the snow (you should dress warm / wear suitable boots, equip yourself with sunglasses), and there is also an interesting station of frozen sculptures.
To get there, you have to change to the train traveling in a special quarry that was carried out in the mountain.
Climbing the mountain is relatively expensive. Since the information here is true as of 2016, it is better to verify the current price on the relevant websites. Also, it is possible that a weekly/monthly public transportation ticket may lower the costs, you should also check that.
